Children of Prisoners Library
Family and Corrections Network have created a new resource—the
Children of Prisoners Library (CPL), an Internet based resource at
www.fcnetwork.org. CPL
provides free information sheets designed for people serving
children of prisoners and their caregivers.
Internet
Mental Health
Internet Mental Health is a free encyclopedia of mental health
information created by a Canadian psychiatrist, Dr. Phillip Long.
The website includes diagnosis/assessment tools, mental health
information, definitions and criteria of mental disorders.
National Institute on
Corrections
This site offers information about current correctional practices
and provides information on training/technical assistance services
and policy/program development assistance to federal, state, and
local corrections agencies.
National Alliance for the Mentally
Ill (NAMI)
This website includes contacts for state and local NAMI affiliates,
fact sheets on specific mental illnesses and treatment options,
legislative action alerts, and articles on recent research including
clinical trials and ethical issues.
Mental Health America
Mental Health America (MHA - formerly the National Mental health
Association) a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people
live mentally healthier lives. MHA promotes mental wellness and
well-being of the nation on a daily basis and in times of crisis.
The website includes information on mental health, advocacy,
research, education and service.
CEU Information:
Pathways Courses
Online Courses that offer prevention courses that are free to the
public. Some courses are meant for professionals and have continuing
education credits available. Other courses are designed to provide
helpful information to members of the general public interested in
prevention topics. This site offers education and free CEU’s
regarding substance abuse issues.
Worldwide Learn
Online continuing education courses and training for mental health
professionals, including physicians, psychologists, school
counselors, marriage and family therapists, addiction professionals,
psychiatric nurses, and social workers.
NASW WebEd
NASW WebEd is the venue for online course offerings developed and
offered by the NASW National Office. NASW WebEd courses are credited
and social workers who pass the course exam will receive CEUs.
Social
Work Research
Social Work Search offers an online database of links and other
services devoted solely to the Social Work profession. It started as
a Webring service to link together Social Work related websites all
over the world (Social Work Webring).
Professional
Organizations/Associations:
Council on Social Work Education
(CSWE)
CSWE is the accrediting body for social work education in the United
States and the largest professional association of social work
educators. The website offers information on accreditation, a
directory of accredited social work degree programs, information on
the annual convention, e-learning courses, and a career center.
Association of Social Work Boards
(ASWB)
The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) is the association of
boards that regulate social work practice. ASWB develops and
maintains the social work licensing examination used across the
country, and is a central resource for information on the legal
regulation of social work. Through the association, social work
boards can share information and work together. ASWB is available to
help social workers and social work students with questions they
have about licensing and the social work examinations.
Professional Ethics
Social work and mental health practitioners frequently face ethical
dilemmas involving their interactions with clients, agency policies
and procedures, colleagues, administrators, managed care, and other
organizational systems. This website provides a resource for
practitioners in determining if an issue requires ethical
consideration, or in resolving an ethical dilemma.
Clinical Social Work Association (CSWA)
The Clinical Social Work Association is a confederation of 31 state
societies for clinical social work. The state societies are formed
as voluntary associations for the purpose of promoting the highest
standards of professional education and clinical practice. Each
society is active with legislative advocacy and lobbying efforts for
adequate and appropriate mental health services and coverage at
their state and national levels of government.
Institute for the Advancement of Social Work Research (IASWR)
A freestanding, not-for-profit organization, IASWR serves the
research needs of the entire social work profession. IASWR promotes
social work research conducted by academic and professional
organizations but does not conduct or fund social work research
directly, except in surveys on behalf of the profession, which
relate Institute goals. The IASWR listserv alerts in the social work
community to opportunities for research funding and fellowships,
conferences, calls for papers and important new research findings.
Mental Health America
(MHA-formerly the National Mental health Association)
A nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people live mentally
healthier lives. MHA promotes mental wellness and well-being of the
nation on a daily basis and in times of crisis. The website includes
information on mental health, advocacy, research ,education and
service.
National Association of
Social Workers (NASW)
NASW is the largest association of professional social workers in
the United States. With 155,000 members in 55 chapters, NASW
promotes, develops and protects the practice of social work and
social workers. NASW also seeks to enhance the well-being of
individuals, families, and communities through its work and through
its advocacy.
Society For
Social Work Leadership in Health Care
The Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care is an
association, 1300 members strong, dedicated to promoting the
universal availability, accessibility, coordination, and
effectiveness of health care that addresses the psychosocial
components of health and illness.
International Federation of Social
Workers (IFSW)
The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) is a global
organization striving for social justice, human rights and social
development through the development of social work, best practices
and international cooperation between social workers and their
professional organizations.
The Center for Clinical Social
Work
The Center for Clinical Social Work is a new national organization
for clinical social workers in all practice settings and all levels
of professional development. The mission of the Center for Clinical
Social Work is to serve as the national voice of the profession,
guardian of its values, and champion of its rights. Their National
Bill of Rights for Clinical Social Workers is the basis of the
Center’s education and advocacy efforts.
