Applicants: Any full time, active duty, USPHS Commissioned Officer
Psychologist. One awardee will be chosen each year. The Chair, Chair-Elect and
Secretary of the Psychologist professional Advisory Group (PsyPAG)
are not
eligible to compete.
Nominations: Nominations may be made by civil servants or commissioned
Officers who are familiar with the officer's
accomplishments. For this award, psychologists are described
as those within the HSO or Scientist Category who are
classified by the Corps as a psychologist and who have the
advanced graduate degrees in psychology and/or State
licensure/certification as a psychologists.
Criteria:
Candidates must demonstrate:
1. A Positive USPHS professional image and Superior
Officership;
2. Notable Leadership; and
3. Must meet one of the following criteria:
- A specific notable accomplishment that impacts the
public health or the science or practice of psychology
- Sustained High quality work performance demonstrated
by significant accomplishments over a significant period
of time in an important public health field; and
initiative in leadership;
- The application of a unique skill or creative
imagination to the approach or solution of a significant
public health problem(s);
- Technical, scientific and/or other professional
contributions that is significant to a specific Office,
Center, Bureau, or Agency or Public Health Service
Mission.
Submission Package: A complete submission package consists of the following:
- Identification of the Candidate including rank and PHS
number
- Candidate’s information including Title, Work address,
telephone number, fax number and e-mail address, and
Graduate degree
- Nominator information (if applicable) including: name and
position title. Include address and phone info if different
than the candidates.
- Nomination information: (no more than 2 pages, using a 12
point font with one inch margins)

- The first paragraph should state the reason for the
nomination and
mention the areas of practice.
- The body of the submission must describe how the
candidate
demonstrates the four criteria mentioned above and how the
candidate has
brought about substantial professional impact/results.

Selection Process: The Awards Sub-Committee of the PsyPAG may be composed of one or more representatives from the following: Current
PsyPAG Officers (Chair, Chair-Elect, and Secretary); past PsyPAG Chairs; and
past recipients of the PsyPAG Award. The first award will be decided by the
2005 PsyPAG chair, 2006 chair-elect and/or 2005 Secretary.
The Awards Sub-Committee will rank the most meritorious
nominations and select the awardee. The selection of the recipient for the
Psychologist of the year by the Awards Sub-Committee is final. The
awardee may accept his or her award at the Commissioned Officers Association (COA)
Public Health Professional Conference. All costs associated with
attending the COA Professional Conference are the
responsibility of the awarded Officer.
