HS Professional Advisory Committee
The Health Services Professional Advisory Committee (HS PAC) is
comprised of 19 health services professionals who serve for
3-year terms. The HS PAC operates based on a Charter and
Bylaws of written rules and procedures. Additionally, the
HS PAC provides advice and consultation to the
Surgeon General and the
Chief Professional Officer on
issues related to professional practice and personnel
activities of the Health Services category of the
Commissioned Corps.
HS PAC members are chosen from various
agencies and organizations in which HSOs serve. The HS PAC
members represent a cross-section of the concerns,
interests, and responsibilities of all HSOs. The HS PAC has
eight permanent
subcommittees: Awards, Communications, Career Development,
Membership, Mentoring, Policy, Readiness, Recruitment and Retention.
The HS PAC subcommittees address a variety of
topics such as special pay and allowances, appointment
standards, career development, mentoring, the Associate
Recruiter Program, the HSO Home
Page and the HSO Listserv. These subcommittees are
chaired by HS PAC members; however, all HSOs are encouraged
to participate, and anyone can volunteer to assist on any
subcommittee (except Membership).
The PAC welcomes volunteers! Officers may contact any
HS PAC member to become involved.
In addition, the PAC has formed a number of HSO
Professional Advisory
Groups (PAGs) to address discipline-specific issues. At
this writing, there are PAGs for Basic and Applied Science,
Dental Hygiene, Health Administration, Information Technology, Medical
Technology, Optometry,
Physician Assistant, Psychology, and Social Work.
