Welcome to the Health Services Officers Page
Health Services Officers (HSOs) are one of eleven professional categories of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS). HSOs contribute vitally to the health of the Nation and are an invaluable resource to the Office of the Surgeon General, the PHS, other governmental agencies, and the American public.
Global health and global health response has increasingly become a top priority as it relates to the health and security of individuals and nations throughout the world. The purpose of this virtual conference presentation is to provide clinicians and professionals throughout the medical field with an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of mental health providers in support of Operation United Assistance (OUA) within the Monrovia Medical Unit (MMU) in Liberia. The audience will learn treatment protocols for the Ebola virus, per the Disaster Standard of Care as well as the role of Force Health Protection in an outbreak environment. In addition, the audience will have an opportunity to learn about the psycho-social elements associated with the virus and the roles and responsibilities of mental health professionals providing direct and indirect Ebola patient care, which will apply to current and future global health responses.
